Up until recently, the art of blogging and social media were completely separate from one another. Blogging is more crafted, longer, and serious while social media updates are generally short, personal, and spontaneous.
Considering just about everyone is on at least one form of social media these days, most assumed that it was on track to eliminate blogging altogether due to our deteriorating attention spans.
Thankfully instead of competing for our attention, these two forms of communication have intertwined beautifully and can be used to compliment one another to serve the same purpose. It’s not as easy as it looks though and the trick is to find a way to enrich your social media accounts with your content while also using it to promote your blog without sounding like you’re trying to sell someone.
The first step if you haven’t already done so is to create social media accounts for your brand. Make sure they’re tilted similarly or the same if possible. Set up a Twitter and a Facebook account to start and branch out from there depending on your market.
Next, you want to make sure that your blog is set up with share buttons so that your posts can be easily shared after being read. This allows you to reach new readers that you might not have come in contact with otherwise.
You also want to ensure that your posts contain some amount of drama to keep people talking. This can be done by adding a picture, video, or simply asking people a question that promotes discussion amongst one another. Everyone has an opinion and when they’re invited to express it, it leads to others doing the same and as I’ve stated before, user engagement is a wonderful thing.
The main point I’m trying to make is that things aren’t as cut and dry as they used to be and you really need to use all the resources available to you to grow your audience. Entice your readers to follow you so they’ll always know when you’ve posted something new. Update your accounts frequently to make sure you’re being seen and always keep it engaging and you’ll see your metrics grow exponentially.
